San Sebastiano, capitano delle guardie imperiali romane condannato a morte in seguito alla sua conversione al Cristianesimo, fu legato a un albero e colpito con molte frecce senza però morire. Dopo essere stato guarito dalle sante donne, il coraggioso Sebastiano fu giustiziato a bastonate. San Sebastiano, santo patrono di Taverna, è stato diffusamente venerato come protettore contro la peste. Nel corso della sua carriera, Preti ha dipinto numerose raffigurazioni si San Sebastiano, un tema al quale egli corrispondeva con una emotiva convinzione

San Sebastian was the captain of the Imperial Roman guard sentenced to death by Diocletian following his conversion to Christianity. He was tied to a tree and hit with many arrows without dying. After being healed by the holy women,the

brave Sebastian was beaten again.San Sebastian, patron and Saint of Taverna, was widely revered as a protector against plague.During his career, Preti painted many representations of San Sebastin, a subject by which he corresponded with a several emotional feeling.
