Opera dei primi anni 1690

Cristo Bambino è rappresentato racchiuso in una mandorla di luce dorata. Il Bambino guarda direttamente l’osservatore e alza la sua mano destra in segno di benedizione. Due angeli, su entrambi i lati del globo, tengono i simboli della sua passione: la Corona di Spine e i Chiodi della Croce (a sinistra); la Lancia e la Colonna (a destra). Le dimensioni, relativamente piccole della tela usata dal Preti, sollevano la possibilità che l’opera non sia stata originariamente concepita per essere una pala d’altare in San Domenico. Il dipinto è stato descritto come una produzione della bottega del Preti a Malta. L’artista ha consentito che l’imprimitura rosso-bruna della tela si mostrasse liberamente da cima a fondo in tutte le ombre, come un segno distintivo del suo ultimo stile. Il Redentore Infante deve essere datato all’ultimo periodo degli anni ’80 o agli inizi degli anni ’90 del Seicento.

Christ the Child is enclosed in a golden light almond. The Child looks directly the observer and raises his right hand in a gesture of blessing. Two angels on both sides of the globe, take the symbols of his passion: the Crown of Thorns and Nails of the Cross (left), the Lance and the column (right). The little size of the canvas used by Priests, explains the possibility that the work was not originally designed to be an altar in San Domenico. The painting was described as a production of Preti in Malta. The artist gave the red-brown colors of the canvas from the top to the bottom in all the shadows, as a distinctive sign of his latest style.
